The Tour · 3 Weeks

Tour Overview

A three-plus week, fully-guided journey through Iceland, Denmark, and Sweden — training, sightseeing, and competing in two international tournaments, capped by the world's largest youth football tournament: the Gothia Cup in Gothenburg.

Week by Week

How the Tour Unfolds

Week 1

Pre-Tournament Training

Voersa, Denmark

Train for 5-days prior to the tournaments as a warm up. Training will include Danish players throughout week one, and some Danish coaches alongside our American Directors and Coaches, whereas many will join us for tournament play in weeks 2 & 3.

Week 2

Cup No. 1

Frederikshavn, Denmark

Cup No.1 is a large football tournament for youths, which is held each year in week 28 in Frederikshavn, Denmark. Since the start of Cup No.1 in 1984, coaches, players and judges from more than 100 nations and almost 9000 teams have participated.

Week 3

Gothenburg, Sweden

Held every July in Gothenburg since 1975, the Gothia Cup is the world's largest international youth football tournament — widely known as the “Little World Cup.” More than one million players representing 153 nations have competed for the title over the tournament's history.

Week 1

Pre-Tournament Training Session

Before a single tournament match is played, the week in Voersa is where the roster actually comes together. Scandia United's traveling players train side-by-side with Danish players for five straight days, giving our American Directors and Coaches time to build out full, competitive squads ahead of Cup No. 1 and the Gothia Cup.

Danish coaches join our staff throughout the week to help evaluate combinations, adjust positioning, and get every player — American and Danish alike — comfortable playing together before the whistle blows on tournament week. Many of these same Danish players and coaches then travel on with the squad for tournament play in Weeks 2 & 3.

Week 2

Why Cup No. 1 Matters

Cup No. 1 follows the European tournament format, splitting group play into A and B brackets by strength of competition. Rather than a single elimination bracket that can end a team's tournament after one or two matches, this structure guarantees every team more games across the week — and keeps every match meaningful, since teams are grouped against opponents of a similar level.

For our players, that means more minutes on the pitch, more competitive matchups, and a true tune-up against international opponents before the bigger stage of the Gothia Cup in Gothenburg the following week.

What Is the Gothia Cup?

The “Little World Cup”

Held every July in Gothenburg, Sweden since 1975, the Gothia Cup is the world's largest international youth football tournament, drawing more than 1,600 teams and players from over 80 countries with an opening ceremony that fills the stadium with 55,000 soccer fans. It is widely known as the “Little World Cup” for the scale of competition and the international friendships formed on and off the pitch.

Scandia United's tour wraps the tournament in a complete three-plus week travel experience — beginning in Iceland, continuing to a training week and Cup No. 1 in Denmark, and finishing in Gothenburg for the Gothia Cup, the opening ceremony, and closing celebrations at Liseberg.

Growth in Soccer and in Life

Traveler Testimonial: Growth in Soccer and in Life

“This trip has been so amazing; it has been a wonderful experience for me. During this trip I have learned so much, not only about soccer but about being a better person. For example, soccer wise I learned that I need to be a quicker and more aggressive player. And on being a better person, I learned how to interact and bond with people quicker and easier. The people I met on this trip really made this experience a lot better. The day we leave, I will be very sad because I might not ever see any of my new friends again. But, I can't wait to go home and tell my family and friends all of my memories. Thank you SCANDIA!!!”

The journey begins at your Gateway City airport before flying to Keflavik, Iceland, where the full traveling squad reunites for the Golden Circle Tour, Fly Over Iceland, and the Sky Lagoon.

Denmark

A full training week near Frederikshavn, Denmark with Danish players joining our sessions, followed by Cup No. 1 — our first international tournament of the tour.

When the Gothia Cup concludes, the team celebrates at Liseberg — the largest amusement park in Northern Europe — before departing by bus for a final night of sightseeing in Oslo, Norway, and a return flight home via a brief layover in Iceland.

Visit 4 Countries and Play in 2 Tournaments

Traveler Testimonial: Visit 4 Countries and Play in 2 Tournaments

“This trip has been amazing opportunity. We got to visit four different countries other than the U.S. These past 3 1/2 weeks has been more than enjoyable. From training for a week in Tonder and getting to know everyone, to being captain and playing in the Dana Cup No.1 and Gothia Cup. Although we didn't win on the boy's side, we came pretty close. This was a very big accomplishment considering the fact that we haven't ever played with the two teams for the two different tournaments. Thank you SUSA for allowing me to have this experience to play soccer and to experience different cultures.”

Traveler Testimonial: New Experiences and Team Bonding

“During this trip I have had so many new experiences even though it was my third year. We made a little group called the 'rat pack' and we were pretty much unstoppable. Our team bonded so much on and off the field, as it was visible with the result of our wins! I love this trip so much and I have so many memories that I can't wait to share.”
